Innovation award
Campus Création is a 6 months fictitious business creation program to test your entrepreneurship. It's a real-life exercise, the only one of its kind where more than 150 teams compete to come up with a business idea. Working as part of an interdisciplinary, inter-school project team, I was able to discover and experience all the stages involved in setting up a company: ideation, project team management, differentiation, matching needs to market, business model, prototyping, communication, action planning, project pitch...
Stomycare
Stomycare is the story of six Lyon-based students coming together for a common project: to act as agents in service of the common good. During a discussion among us, a particular issue stood out: that of stoma patients and their very difficult living conditions. As we delved deeper into our research, it became evident that these patients experience their illness in a very isolated manner, and there is a real silence surrounding the topic of stoma.
According to our survey, 100% of stoma patients lament the psychological impact of their ostomy on their well-being (lack of self-confidence, low self-esteem, aesthetic concerns). Furthermore, and most importantly, 90% of patients complained about pouch leaks. Based on this observation, we tried to answer the following issue:
" How can we alleviate the daily lives of stoma patients,
while minimizing pouch leaks to the greatest extent possible? "
Our innovation takes the form of a valve that seals the patient's pouch. It allows sealing the pouch when it's full while waiting to find a restroom and allows for removing and handling the pouch without the risk of leakage. With a thickness of less than 5mm, the valve is compatible with all two-piece pouches available on the market. It allows the stoma patient to block any leakage from their pouch with a simple gesture.
The valve is positioned between the pouch and the adhesive support attached to the skin. The dimensions of the attachment system match those between the pouch and the adhesive backing.
Unfortunately we were at the begenning of our engineering and art studes and we couldn't find time to continue this project after winning the innovation award. Nevertheless, it was an extremely enriching first step in the world of entrepreneurship. Also, that's where I started to develop a real interest in innovation in healthcare technologie.
The COVID-19 crisis emerged during our project, and it taught us how to handle crisis situations and adapt to continue working. However, the ceremony that was originally planned to be in-person and involve direct contact with companies ultimately took place remotely.
